Whilst studying on my MA at Manchester Metropolitan University under the wonderful Professor Mary Oliver, from 1999-2001, she encouraged me to bring my performance experience and my visual art experience together. At the time I was a single mother, bringing up two boys on my own. I was trapped in my house much of the time so created an alter ego: 'Wendy'. Making my own costumes and using body parts and wigs, 'Wendy' could fantasise her way out of her situation by making constructed photographs and performance videos. 'Wendy' became my art work and enjoyed a infamous popularity for several years within the Manchester art scene of the time.
